What to look for when hiring a real estate agent

Posted

Awards don’t sell houses—experience does. You’re trusting someone with what’s likely your greatest single asset, so handing the job to a neighbor’s cousin who “just got their license” because they seem real nice is not ideal.

You want a professional who has always treated real estate as a full-time career, not a part-time hobby. When you hire an agent, you’re hiring their process, market knowledge, and network.

Someone who “specializes” in three counties doesn’t specialize in anything. Your agent should be active in your town—and able to prove it with recent sales and a solid grasp of what buyers in your market want right now.

Ask what resources they bring to the table. Do they have a marketing plan? Access to contractors of all types, top-notch photographers, repair people?  Trust someone who has years of resources to share with you.  You want someone with a great support system behind them: administrative help, marketing pros, and trusted partners who keep your transaction moving smoothly from listing to closing.

Bottom line: choose an agent who’s knowledgeable, responsive, and relentlessly professional.

Because this isn’t just another deal—it’s your home, your equity, and your future on the line.
