Spotlight: Friends Village

A season to gather at Friends Village

Posted

At Friends Village, fall is filled with opportunities to connect, learn, move and celebrate together. From lively programs and thoughtful conversations to creative workshops, social gatherings and special events, October offers something for everyone. Whether you join us for an activity, visit during an open house or celebrate at our Friends for All Time Gala, you’ll find a warm welcome.

One especially meaningful event is our Oct. 16 viewing of The Return of Benjamin Lay at 2:30 p.m.  This one-man play brings the outspoken Quaker abolitionist’s story to life, starring acclaimed actor Mark Povinelli. Known for his work on stage and screen, Povinelli is an experienced performer recognized for his compelling character portrayals and engaging storytelling. His performance invites us to reflect on conscience, courage and the willingness to challenge injustice—even within one’s own community.

That spirit of reflection and connection continues throughout our recurring programs. The Men’s Club offers a relaxed place for conversation and friendship, while Yoga for Seniors and Tai Chi invite participants to move at a comfortable pace. Those eager to learn can explore programs on Oscar Hammerstein, the history of Highland Park and Amish history. Financial lectures presented by The First National Bank of Newtown provide additional opportunities to ask questions and gain useful insights.

Senior Planet returns with a four-week workshop devoted to editing and preparing photos. Participants can use treasured images in gifts, calendars, scrapbooks and more while developing a practical skill and sharing memories.

Our Friends for All Time Gala honors the people who make Friends Village special and brings residents, families and friends together for an evening of fellowship. Those considering the community can attend an open house on Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to noon to tour Friends Village, learn about daily life and meet residents.
