“We met up with our pancreatic cancer research team at the Abramson Cancer Center in April and found out that much of our government research funding is in peril,” states Christine Edmonds, President of AL4L. “We have so many promising clinical trials and new treatment therapies in the pipeline, so we decided to throw a big party and raise $100,000 in one fell swoop. We are celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the Penn Pancreatic Translational Center of Excellence, which our initial funding helped to establish, so we will also be honoring Dr. Benjamin Stanger, the head of our team.”
The group has secured a donated venue at the Overbrook Golf Club in Villanova on
Thursday, October 30 from 6:30-9:30 pm. The event will feature heavy hors d’oeuvres, an open bar and live band. There is a bus available to transport guests from Newtown to the party and back.
“A large part of our fundraising effort is focused on securing event sponsorships and silent auction items- so if anyone is interested in helping with that, my contact info is on our website’” continued Ms. Edmonds, “ Every donation will get our researchers what they need to improve survival outcomes today and provide real hope for patients who face this challenging diagnosis in the future.”
The all-volunteer organization was founded in honor of Nora Edmonds and her younger brother Kevin, who each lost their lives to pancreatic cancer. Their family will underwrite the event so that 100% of the money that is raised will go to research. Sponsorship and ticket information, as well as a list of other fundraising events is on the group’s website: www.aloveforlife.us.
