We are Ed Merriman and Melissa Merk, your neighbors, running for Newtown Township Supervisor. We absolutely love this community and want to keep Newtown moving forward in a positive direction. So, when the opportunity to serve Newtown by running for Township Supervisors was presented to us, we thoughtfully and excitedly accepted the challenge.
Ed is a software engineer who will bring his data-driven approach and passion to “keep Newtown awesome” to the Board of Supervisors. Melissa is a lawyer who values order, consistency and reasoned decision-making. She developed her love of learning and critical thinking at Council Rock High School, where her children also attended.
As supervisors, we will work to maintain fiscal responsibility, keep Newtown green, encourage local business and strengthen government accountability. At the crux of these governing principles is the concern of over-development.
Over the decades, Newtown Township has experienced rapid development and population growth, reaching nearly 20,000 residents today. Newtown Township was able to grow because it had the most essential resource for development: land. Today, that resource is running out. What happens to the land that remains will shape the future of our community. Preserving open space isn’t just about protecting nature; it’s about protecting the quality of life in Newtown.
If elected to the Newtown Board of Supervisors, we will work to preserve the remaining open space and ensure that any future development is thoughtful, sustainable, and aligned with the community’s long-term interests.
We are asking for your vote this Election Day, November 4. We would be honored to serve Newtown Township, the community that has given so much to us and our families.
